Promotion Policy Overview
In order to create an atmosphere related to military simulation a promotion system resembling the U.S. Army's was needed. The following policy is the 2nd Battalion, 75th Ranger Regiments attempt to bring real world realism into the practical application of gaming where the unit exists. This policy has been the best attempt to create a fair and impartial way to reward members for their dedication to the unit.
Requirements for Promotion
Ranks at the enlisted, warrant officer and officer levels are posses different criteria or requirements for promotion. These are for example; contributing to the community outside of duties, no lapse in activity levels, proficiency in-game, graduated from required leadership training, recommendation from supervisor or promotion board. The more open ended requirements are for the interpretation of the promotion board such as forum contributions and proficiency in-game. While contributing to duty MOS (DMOS) activities are more defined as active participating in staff section(s).
Time in Grade and Time in Service
Time in Grade is defined as the number of days spent at the current rank or pay grade. Time in Service is the overall number of days spent in the unit. While in the reserve section Time in Grade is adjusted to reflect the activity level of reserve members while the Time in Service is not altered. In most cases the Time in Grade and Time in Service requirements are not to be deviated from without approval from S-1 Personnel and Command Staff.
Awards and Decorations
Soldiers who go above and beyond in their duties in and out of game who are recognized with awards and decorations can have days credited towards their current ranks Time in Grade. The more prestigious the award and decoration the more days that can be credited. In almost all cases its awarded in 10, 15 or 30 days. If S-1 Personnel and Command Staff cannot justify the actions to equal an award for outstanding service, their will not be any days credited. This policy is used sparingly and to award those going above and beyond.
Eligibility for Promotion
Any soldiers who meets the Time in Grade, training, and the other miscellaneous requirements listed on the Ranks and Insignia page must first be approved by the S-1 Personnel Officer for promotion. The list of soldiers who are ready for promotion administratively must be checked for disciplinary complaints or an activity check. Promotions to E-1 Private and E-2 Private Second Class are done through the S-3 Operations (Training) Staff Section after the completion of BCT and RASP. Promotions to non-commissioned officer (NCO) require the solider to be in a billet which supports the promotion. Examples of NCO billets are; Fireteam Leader, Team Leader, Squad Leader, Platoon Medic, Platoon JTAC and Company Senior Medic. The policy of being in a billet which supports a promotion applies to the staff non-commissioned officer promotions as-well. Examples of SNCO billets are; Platoon Sergeant, Company Senior JTAC, Company First Sergeant and Battalion Sergeant Major.
Warrant Officer Candidate and Officer Candidate ranks are not considered promotions can can occur outside of a promotion ceremony. Lateral transitions in ranks such as E-4 Specialist to E-4 Corporal, or E-8 Master Sergeant to E-8 First Sergeant can also occur outside of promotion ceremonies.
With approval from Command Staff promotions E-8 First Sergeant and O-1 Second Lieutenant can occur as needed to fill vacancies in the unit. If this occurs, an announcement post detailing the background of the recipient shall be made.
Promotion Board
Personnel who are up for promotion to ranks that require a promotion board, will be reviewed by their immediate chain of command. Topics such as the soldiers activity, performance in game, ability to lead, manage and supervise subordinates, awards the solider has earned, training qualifications obtained and general good character will be reviewed. It is up to the discretion of the promotion board if an interview is conducted with the solider up for promotion. Once the promotion board is concluded the results are passes to the S-1 Personnel Officer to be approved and the promotion is granted.
Note: For Waiver Required positions, A Waiver must be submitted through the Chain of Command to Command Staff |
